Back in 2000, not too long after singing on the movie "Shrek", I was called to sing on another Dreamworks film and that was 'The Road To El Dorado'.
The Road to El Dorado is an American animated adventure comedy film. The soundtrack features songs by Elton John and Tim Rice, the music team from Disney's The Lion King.
As singers we worked on the film with Hans Zimmer and John Powell, doing what they call source cues for the film. During this time period I got to work on 3 of Dreamworks animated films, the first was Shrek, the 2nd was The Prince of Egypt and then The Road To El Dorado.
There were 8 singers on the session and it was nice hanging out with Hans Zimmer. We had previously worked together on Shrek, so it was nice being back together for this particular production.
The film was released in March / 2000. It grossed a little over twelve million dollars and earned 2nd place at the box office that weekend behind Erin Brockovich.
Sad to say though the film had a $95 million dollar budget and worldwide the film grossed $76,432,727 which means that this film is considered a box office bomb :-(
Either way it still goes down as one of the many sessions that I've been able to add to my career, and yes I had fun.
Until next time - Phillip
