WELCOME

Being in the entertainment industry I'm constantly asked, "Who are you working with?", OR "What is your current project?"
So I decided to start a simple BLOG that answer those questions.

Orillia gives the Sheena Easton Band yet another S.O.

Tucked away in Orillia, Ontario, Canada is a place called Casino Rama. It's about 1 hour and a half outside of Toronto, but it's packed with one of the nicest hotels and venue's that you'll ever see. Celebrities from literally all around the world come to perform at one of Canada's best Casinos. Well on February 5, 2011 it was no different. Sheena Easton performed here for the 2nd time, but it was my first time performing here since I've been working with her which will be 6 years in March / 2011. How the time flies.

There were about 2,600 in the audience give or take and consistent with our performances with Sheena Easton, at the end of the show was yet another standing ovation, in case you were wondering what is an S.O. You never get tired of receiving a standing ovation, because that's the crowds way of showing you that they really enjoyed the performance.

After the show many people came up to me and mentioned how much they enjoyed the duets that I perform with Sheena. On my way back to my room one gentleman in particular stopped me and told me how much he appreciated the performance. We had a conversation and found out that he plays viola with the Ontario Philharmonic and has been performing with them for 54 years. So he's a fellow veteran musician, even though he's been performing with the Philharmonic since before I was born :-) It was nice to receive a compliment like that from a fellow musician. I got to take took a picture with he and his wife.

As the band was hanging out, unwinding from the week's activity, many came up to show their appreciation for the performance as well. We had just performed 2 shows at Katie Belle's in Florida, which you can read about in the previous BLOG, on Tuesday and finished up this week here in Canada.

This is a good solid band. All of the musicians that work with Sheena also work with other people, but when we come together as a unit there's something special that happens and it comes across in our performances.

As I mentioned, you never get tired of receiving a standing ovation, because it really shows us how much the audience appreciates our performance. So as a performer I never want to take that for granted. We enjoyed ourselves here at Casino Rama and look forward to coming back in the future where hopefully Orillia will give the Sheena Easton Band yet another S.O.

Until next time - Phillip

  2. Hey Phillip .. Caught your performance with Sheena for the second time last night. (The first time was a couple of years back at South Point.) It's nice to see you up here in our neck of the woods. :o)

Glad to see you guys made it up here given your previous blog comment "weather permitting". If you didn't my front row seats would have been a disaster. LOL. Just kidding. I would have survived.

In retrospect though, the weather was wonderful wasn't it? There's nothing worse than fear itself. The reality is really much better than the anxiety we tend to build up in our own mind of the unknown.

So I'm still trying to figure out what songs were removed from the new set of songs. I thought the new set works nicely thought.

Has Sheena been listening to a lot of Burt Bacharach songs lately or something?

Janis Ian's "In the Winter" was particularly powerful and poignant. Personally I would have followed that up with "You Never Gave Me the Chance" ... but that is just me.

    Anthony :o)
