CHRONICLES OFTHE PAST - "Everybody Have Fun Tonight"

Remember the 80's? Well I guess that depends on who's reading this BLOG. For those of you who do remember the 80's there was this group called Wang Chung. You would think they were a group from China, but actually they were from England.

In 1986 they had a huge hit called "Everybody Have Fun Tonight". This was a song that was produced by Peter Wolf. The chorus was, "Everybody Have Fun tonight, Everybody Wang Chung tonight"... You may remember it and you're singing along even right now.

During the 80s I was working with Peter Wolf quite a bit singing on many of the hits that he produced, and this was just one of them. We definitely had 'fun' recording the backgrounds on this song. There were 7 singers on this song and the deep voice on the chorus is Kevin Dorsey.  We actually recorded more songs on the album, but this was the song that became the huge hit.

This song has also been used quite a bit for other projects as well. I remember coming home one day and hearing a Michelob commercial that was using this song. I didn't know if it was us or if they just used the song and hired different singers. We checked with S.A.G. which is the Screen Actors Guild to see if they used the original song, because the commercial was playing quite a bit. Come to find out that 'YES' they used the original song and so we were able to get paid on this song for the usage of putting it on a commercial. Anytime you record a song and then that song is used in a different setting, like a movie, commercial or something else then the people that worked on the song gets paid again. Sometimes these things slip through the cracks, but this one didn't.

The most recent usage of this song was a Papa John's commercial. This was just about one year or so ago. We again checked with S.A.G., but this time the song had been re-recorded using different singers.
